...Hello 2013!

Hello 2013!

I have spent a lot of time thinking this week about New Years Resolutions. I usually make some every year, and promptly don't follow them. Maybe this is my procrastination rearing it's ugly head?

Since I will be home full time I thought I would set some goals that seemed realistic to me.

Goal number 1 – Pull out my basket of UFOs (un-finished objects), and complete the several years of Christmas presents unfinished. Most of those projects I was making for my mom...she has such patience with my terrible lack of finishing skills!

The biggest project I think is sitting and waiting for me is the Moorish Mosaic Afghan by Lisa Naskrent. It was published in Interweave Crochet several years ago and was a huge hit. I too fell in love with it and was trying to finish it on the sly...but only made 12 of the 30 large motifs. At least I'm almost ½ way there!!

Another goal of mine is to finish all of my unfinished designs that are sitting near completion. I have several beautiful shawls that are just crying to be finished before spring, and one that would love to be finished this winter yet!

My next goal is one I've never done before. I am going to take the Craftsy class Beyond Basic Broomstick lace, taught by the awesome Jennifer Hanson. Broomstick lace is a lovely type of crochet work that I've never tried before, but I am really excited to get my hands all over it! I wonder what kinds of designs I'll be pulling out of my ears after that class ;)

One of my yearly goals I'm NOT putting on the this year is that of designing garments. I've put it on my list year after year and it always scares the crap out of me...so much so that it always ends up at the bottom of the list where I might not be as prone to see it! I have been my own model for my patterns for so many years, and being pregnant isn't be helping me much! I do have a dress form that could help me out, but I have a feeling garment design may just become more appealing when I don't feel so much pressure to try it out.

What are your goals this New Year? If you haven't set any, I think you should come along and try out Broomstick Lace! We can compare class notes! And having others to chat with about broomstick lace would be super awesome...it is definitely not as prevalent as tunisian crochet is at this point!

Again, Happy New Year!
Chelsea
