In my Beyond Basic Broomstick Lace class on Craftsy, I started working on the lovely fingerless mitt pattern! I felt like I was a beginning crocheter all over again, that's how many times I had to rip out wrong rows! I guess I was pretty distracted while I started trying to make them. I'm mostly done with one mitt now, but there are still a few finishing details that need attention. I'm crossing my fingers that I have enough yarn to finish the second one!! The wool I'm using was hand dyed as a gift, and my ball is definitely smaller from when I started. I think it makes a pretty cool mitt though!
Yesterday I had a ball being able to work at my old LYS, the Sow's Ear in Verona, WI. I enjoyed a delicious cup of french press while plugging away!
I really love the inserted broomstick lace over the wrist. I think it's so unique how the rows overlap each other. The rest of the body is made up in post stitches, which will definitely keep my hands toasty! I did a lot of modification over the hand of the mitts because my hands are so small. The pattern calls for a few more rows of crochet, but if I did that they would be up to my finger tips!
I wish I could have taken a picture of my hand and wrist together...but there was no way I was getting one by myself! It's a cloudy day here so it's hard to get a quality picture with one hand holding the camera!
One of my other projects this week is not crochet related! My mom and I took a wire working jewelry class on Monday, and this is what I made!
It was a lot of frustrating work, but I'm proud of myself! I learned so much, and I can't wait to try and make more with my mom tomorrow :) The basketweaving of the thin wire along the bottom of the earrings was definitely the hardest part...I broke my wire on one of them TWICE. The second earring was a piece of cake though. You definitely only get better by practicing!
And last, but not least! I started working on a pair of baby booties this week at the Knitting Guild meeting! I will admit I didn't work more on them til this morning because I wanted to have progress on my fingerless mitt :) As I was putting the edging on the bootie I decided I'm pretty sure I didn't make it quite right. The flap doesn't sit squarely in the middle of the bootie, so for it's pair I'm going to have to take a look at that. But hey, it's still cute!
I've kind of decided I think the baby is going to be a boy. I've only dreamed of it being a boy (the whole 2 times I've been pregnant)...but still, if it's a girl I am not complaining! I have picked up way too many adorable girls clothes to wish too hard any particular way :)
What are you planning on crocheting this weekend? I'm not sure what I'm going to work on yet, but it'll be something awesome! Maybe I'll start finding yarn for the incredible rebel lace cardi for my broomstick lace class. The cardi is in the picture for the class up there ^^ I can definitely wear it while pregnant!!
Happy Crocheting!
Chelsea
