Today I spent a long part of my day thinking about what I wanted to blog about today. I wasn't feeling inspired until I pulled out a bag from my office (a large work-in-progress itself) that contained 2 different shawl designs that have been WIPs (Work-In-Progress(es)) for almost a year.
One is an incredible lace weight shawl crocheted in Lorna's Laces Helen's Lace yarn with a size 0 (or C) hook. It has taken me hour upon hour to work on this shawl, and it got set down once I became engaged. It is literally on the last 2 or 3 rows and is GORGEOUS. Way more gorgeous than I remembered it to be. The stitch patterning is beautiful, the yarn's colorway is just as beautiful as I remember it. Why do things like this go missing for such long periods of time, possibly never to see the light of day again?
That's a great question. I have a few possible answers...in my case anyway!
1. I have a very creative mind. By the time I'm halfway through designing a project my mind is already dissecting my next pattern after that...and finding new yarns and swatching and maybe even sketching if I'm in the mood for a sadly formed figure sketch. I get bored of what is already getting old to me REALLY fast.
2. Loosing Interest. By the time I've made the 10th row I'm bored. I have troubles completing projects that have long repeats of the same stitch. Maybe that is my sign to start designing with more interesting stitch patterns?
3. Forgetting I'm in charge of the design process. Sometimes I'm just not sure where I should take a design next. Whether it be an edging or a short row, sometimes I wish I didn't have to make the call for a decision.
In 2013, I want to target myself when I fall into one of my "design traps" and turn my WIPs into Finished Designs!
I'll share a sneak peak of one of the few designs that have come out of hibernation WIP stage and moved into active WIP stage...
I shared this photo on my Facebook page back in March or April. to be perfectly honest there are only 1 or 2 extra rows on it since this picture was taken. But, that will change! And the pattern WILL get written! I solemnly promise you, my dear faithful reader!
