Yep, that's right! Sunday I celebrated 16 sweet years of life.
Now on to the best part of that birthday (besides being legal to drive!) was the second part of my birthday present from my parents...A year long membership to the Crochet Guild of America! Now, you may be asking, "What's the use of a membership there?" Well, the biggest part of my wanting membership there is they have a very unique program for their members. Once you are a member in good standing, you can fill out an application to become a Professional member. The prerequisite for such a cool title is that you be working as a professional (making part or all your income off of crochet) in the crochet field for at least 2 years. While I haven't been crocheting on that professional level yet, CGOA also offers an Associate Professional status. What is very interesting about being an associate professional is that you may request a professional mentor to further your learning as a crochet designer (or whatever it is that you want...there are many things besides designing!). So, what did I do? Yup. I applied.
Ok, so I wrote the above about 1 whole month ago, and I've had great success in getting a mentor, and she's already helped me so much! I applied to a magazine with an electronic submission, and she showed me how she does submissions of that kind, and offered to let me copy her layout for my own business.
Thank You mom and dad for the best birthday present EVER!
Happy Crocheting!
Chelsea
