How to Crochet a Hat Part 3

This hat is very similar to the last hat I shared with you. A few features that are different would be the trim and the top. When I trimmed around the lower edge of the hat (where it is turned up) I single crocheted once around the bottom edge and then on row two I chained three and single crocheted in every third stitch. This gave the edge a little scallop.

The top yarn matches the trim yarn. How is the top different from the previous hat? Well, instead of little chain loops we have little "dreadlocks." These are more noticeable than the chain loops and give the hat a bit of extra whimsy.

I also want to point out that this hat was crocheted with Strata self striping yarn. Yesterday's hat was crocheted in a varigated. The self striping yarn gives larger areas of color blocks. I have to say, however, that these striping yarns are (in my humble opinion) created for knitting. Because crochet stitches are built so much bigger and thicker than knitting stitches, the yarn never really looks striped when it is crocheted (big disappointment). Anyone for designing a yarn that self strips for crochet?
