While in Uganda (Nov. 2010) Chelsea had the privilege of teaching women to crochet. None of these ladies had ever crocheted before and I was amazed when I arrived 20 minutes later to see how fast many women had learned...they were crocheting evenly and several different stitches. I enjoyed watching Chelsea's face as she saw how eager these women were to learn.
Chelsea is busy working on simple designs that theses ladies would be able to make that we can bring home on our next trip to sell here in the US.
This group of women (about 50) survived the 20+ year war in Northern Uganda. There husbands are dead as are many of their sons. Most rely on growing grains and distilling them into alcohol (i.e. moonshine) to make enough money to barely survive. We are striving to provide several income streams for these women.
Crochet Collection is offering one viable income stream for women who wish to improve their lives and the lives of their community and family.
Crochet Collection will continue to take yarn donations of all kinds for educational purposes and helping get this endeavor off the ground.
Thanks so much for your support and encouragement as Chelsea continues to spread the craft of crochet around the globe!
