It's Time for School!

Hi Everyone!!

Yes, yes, we know that everyone has been back to school for a while now, including myself. I haven't had much time for crocheting between my measly 8 credits of school and working my part-time position at the library!
Guilty Confession: I'm writing this post instead of doing my homework, which is still in major catch up mode from slacking over the wool contest.

But, I just wanted to share something I'm super proud of that I have produced in my Intro to Computer Graphics class! Our class assignment number 4 was to create a CD album cover for ourselves that included a piece of our own artwork. Since I'm not very naturally gifted in drawing or painting I brought out my dress I crocheted for the Make it With Wool contest last month!

If you notice, what fills the dots in spots is my dress :) I was able to colorize it in photoshop to match the outlying circle. I'd welcome any critiques you may have!

In the meanwhile...In the spare time that I do have to crochet, I've been designing my first project to teach the women in Uganda! It's coming along quite well...pictures will come!

Happy Crocheting!
Chelsea
P.S. Don't forget to check back often, I've been updating the Yarn counter as I receive yarn! 70 pounds is SO AWESOME!!!!! Thanks everyone!

Make it With Wool Results!

Hello Everyone!!
I know you're all waiting anxiously to hear my results from the contest, as well as pictures of my finished garments!

Chelsea's Outfit:

Flashing my coat lining!

I finished with 1st runner up and received a $50 cash prize :) I don't think the judges liked my trendiness............they said they didn't like Purple and Teal? What's with that?
Definitely my favorite color combination!

Here is a picture of the whole senior division, it was only two of us!
Sara and I. She will be representing WI at the National MIWW
contest this January in Reno, NV.
Cherie's (aka my mom!) Outfit:

Mom created a lovely Cardigan and Dress for her Wool Ensemble!
Mom's Lovely Outfit
I was so proud of mom! This was her first real sewing project for herself in years! She tackled many things that posed as challenges to her, including zippers! She had to rip and tear a few things out more than once, but she managed to finish her beautiful outfit in just about a week.
This was mom's first year in the MIWW contest, and she won first place! She will send several pictures, a 3 minute video, and her garments to the Adult National MIWW contest which is being held in WI this December. The winner overall will be flown to Reno, NV in January to attend the National MIWW contest.
Eleanor's (aka my 8 year-old sister) Outfit:
This was my little sisters second sewing project! She made her navy blue skirt with Pendleton wool I won at the MIWW contest several years ago. I designed the skirt for her, and she did all the sewing, as well as serged finishing of her seams, all by herself! She created a fringe hem, and had an elastic waistband.

She was the youngest competitor at our state contest :)

And here we are! All of the family Make it With Wool girls!

Until Next Time, where I may just have some sewing tips for you!
Happy Crocheting!

We've reached 50!

Hello Everyone!!

I've got exciting news! My yarn pile Is growing! So far I've received 50 pounds of yarn, and it is still coming in steadily. I've got a corner of the living room devoted to "The pile" although it really  needs to find a new home.

Exciting news! The 2010 Make it With Wool contest is THIS Saturday! My outfit is almost done, and it's quite lovely. My look this year is inspired by Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, with a modern twist. I have a purple fluffy mohair coat that has a structured but very smooth look. I crocheted a dress from Cherry Tree Hill's Oceania yarn, in the Earths Core colorway. The pattern was inspired by the "Sweet Tea" pattern in Doris Chan's book "Everyday Crochet." I based the top of the dress off of the shirt, and used a smaller and larger crochet hook to shape it. It is quite fitted, and looks great on me. I'm really excited to see everything put together...it's gonna look fantastic. (and it'd be really nice to win this year. I'm tired of spending a ton of time on these outfits...but it just makes me a better sewer!)

I'll update with pictures soon!
Happy Crocheting (and sewing, in my case!)
