The Interweave Journey - Part 2

So, my friends, we're on to day 2 of our series of Interweave Crochet. If you haven't read part 1 yet, please do so now!! You'll come out a lot farther in the end =)

While Kim was giving her walk Through of the new Fall Interweave Crochet magazine, she talked a little bit about the submission process at Interweave Crochet. Right now they have the call for submissions out for the Summer 2009 issue (which you can find here), which sounds so great!! If I had a little more time in my schedule right now, I'd definitely put something together. Things that Kim always looks for in a submission are:
  • The Swatch. The reason Interweave Crochet doesn't accept electronic submissions is because Kim wants to be able to see what the finished crocheted product is going to feel like, how it drapes, the thickness of the fabric, and if it has a "this definitely isn't your grandma's crochet" statement to it.
  • The appropriateness of the item for the season (again, read what they're looking for in a submission before you start dreaming!).
Oh, I know there's more, but do you think I can remember it at this time of evening? I'll be sure to add onto this post as I remember more!!

Now, for the special trunk show picture of the day:
While this isn't the best picture in the world of the beautiful Northern Dreams Pullover, There will be a much better picture in the Knitting Daily Gallery! Yes, I modeled this for the gallery, and if it were just a tad bigger (We determined that I should either try a very slightly bigger yarn and next size crochet hook, or just a bigger crochet hook, as the next size is TOO big!), it'd be PERFECT!! I'm SO DEFINITELY making this sweater!!

The Interweave Journey - Part 1

I don't believe that I've posted anything about my latest surprise...my first published piece of writing! Back last December, I wrote to Kim Werker (Interweave Crochet's editor) on her website CrochetMe, introducing myself, and asking about her job, etc. We wrote back and forth a bit, and she asked me if I'd write for Interweave Crochet! She said having the perspective of a teenage crocheter would be very fresh and exciting. That was the very beginning of my article that is now in print in the Fall 2008 Interweave Crochet Magazine.
This past Saturday, my mom and I traveled 430 miles from my home in Wisconsin to Lansing, Michigan for a very special event...The Interweave Crochet Magazine Fall 2008 issue launch party at Threadbear fiber art studio. Some of the biggest highlights of my day were meeting my two new best friends, Kim Werker, editor in chief of Interweave Crochet, and Sandi Wiseheart, editor of Knitting Daily-Interweave's online knitting publication. There was a trunk show of all of the garments featured in the brand new issue of Interweave Crochet, which everyone was allowed to try on. My mom and I had lots of fun trying on all the different kinds of beautiful crocheted clothing that the magazine offers. I learned so much from these two insightful women, that I'll be doing a 2 week series on everything that I learned! I'll also post a picture of some of the things I tried on at the launch party for your enjoyment.

Here is a picture of myself with Sandi Wiseheart

Me with Kim Werker!! I can't wait for my next opportunity to see her!

Beautiful Crocheted Sweater Coat!

It has been quite a while since I have posted anything on this blog (as a guest of Chelsea's), but I had to take a moment to brag. Today I received Chelsea's official picture from the Wisconsin Make It With Wool Competition and boy is it nice. Chelsea didn't win this year, but she sure did learn a lot in the process and is already inspired for next year's entry. Chelsea took a raw wool fleece (given to us by a friend), wash it, dyed it, had it carded in to roving, spun the roving into yarn, then crocheted this beautiful sweater coat! She also sewed the slacks from 100% wool fabric and even dry felted her earrings with fresh water pearls. This is one beautifully crafted outfit! (I want one!)
So......what is Chelsea up to now that this immense project is over?........well........we are washing raw sheep's wool (this time from our own sheep) at the very minute! More is sure to come.........
